Grammys: Best & Worst Dressed

The Grammys are a time for all the stars to come out and shine and possibly push boundaries, even with the tightened sartorial guidelines for 2013.
Overall the celebrities adhered to the Grammy dress code that was sent out last week, but we still had a few head-turners and some celebrities subtly defied the rules, like Rihanna and Kelly Rowland with the peek-a-boo panelling of their dresses.

Now for the best and worst dressed list:

Best Dressed

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood wore a Roberto Cavalli strapless gown with a Johnathon Arndt 381-carat diamond necklace. The dress hugged her figure and pertained to her usual elegant and classy style.

Rihanna wore a custom-made red gown by Azzedine Alaïa and matched her lips to her scarlet dress.
This was definitely a winner for me, this year Rihanna opted for a more conservative and classy look in a Sheer, Scarlet Alia Dress. She still looked youthful and kept it risqué like the Ri-Ri we know and love by having it sheer and panelled. This is the best we’ve ever seen her at the Grammys.

Katy Perry
Katy Perry wore a mint green gown from Gucci’s pre-spring/summer 2013 collection with Adler jewellery.
Katy accentuated every curve and not a bulge, other than plunging chest, was in sight. Despite the 3-D qualities of the keyhole cut of her Gucci dress, the sea foam green tones gave her a glow.

Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland wore a Georges Chakra spring/summer 2013 black gown with cut-away detailing.

Kelly Rowland Move over Beyonce and your pant suit. Kelly was the best dressed of the night in her black sheer George Chakra gown which had strategic cutouts. She looked sexy, but oh so elegant.  Round of applause for Kelly

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift wore a J. Mendel spring/summer 2013 white gown with silver detailing and Jimmy Choo sandals.
Taylor Swift looked classy and youthful in her cream chiffon dress. She turned heads in a J Mendel in her Grecian goddess gown Her plunging front gown with braided cross cords.

Solange Knowles chose a Ralph & Russo Couture emerald gown for the evening, accessorised with hot pink heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewellery.
Solange out dressed her sister as she embraced one the evening’s favourite trends, thigh high slits, in a Ralph & Russo Couture emerald gown.

Natasha Bedingfield

Natasha Bedingfield in Emerson by Jackie Fraser-Swans gown, Marina B jewelry and Brian Atwood heels
Natasha looked very beautiful in a classy red lace Emerson  dress.

My winners: Kelly Rowland and Rihanna

Honourable Mention

Beyoncé in an Osman monochrome jumpsuit, accessorised with a Swarovski clutch and Jimmy Choo platform sandals.

Beyonce eschewed the typical floor-skimming dresses for an elegant Osman jumpsuit and her body looked uh-mazing but I feel she was undressed and just plain boring for the Grammys.

We must not forget the boys, Justin Timberlake did not have a hair out of place in Tom Ford and Trey Songz in Moschino both wearing textured tuxedos.

When it comes to the best dressed male, for me it would have to be Nas in Brioni. He looked original yet very classy.

Personal Style Favourites

Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae in Moschino
I am such a fan of Janelle Monae’s style.  She’s often described it as her ‘uniform’ and because she has come from a long line of workers she pays homage to them through wearing her uniform. She looked stunning in a fitted Moschino tuxedo with gold embroidery.

Florence Welch

Florence Welch arrived in a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci metallic emerald gown, worn with accessories also by the fashion house.

I know many of you will disagree with me on this one but I think Florence looked stunning and still kept her own personal style in her Green, Givenchy, custom made dress. Then again I’m biased and Riccardo can do no wrong in my eyes. There was no need to wear green head to toe though.

Kimbra in Australian designer Jamie Lee Major

She looked so whimsical and fairy like in this mermaidish sheer Jamie Lee Major the gold detailing glistened and complimented her skin tone.

Worst Dressed

Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez teamed an Anthony Vaccarello spring/summer 2013 asymmetric dress with stiletto heels and Norman Silverman diamonds.
I’ve seen a lot of people praise JLO in her black Anthony Vaccerello gown, but I did not like it whatsoever. She showed too much leg, the dress had a terrible fit and just hung on her instead of showing that amazing figure of hers.

Adele chose a Valentino Couture spring/summer 2013 floral embroidered dress, which was modified from the original full-length version shown on the catwalk.
I think she should have stuck to black, I loved the shape of her Valentino Couture Spring/Summer Dress but that floral was just not doing anything for her the dress just made her look like one big oversized flower.
